Taurine is highly present in neutrophils and monocytes, and can react with lysine to produce TauCl. It not only has a direct antioxidant effect, but also reduces the production of inflammatory mediators, playing an anti-inflammatory role. TauCl reduces nuclear factor B activity through the NF kB signaling pathway and decreases the expression of its target genes monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2), ultimately reducing the secretion of inflammatory mediators NO, TNF - α, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), IL-6, IL-8, and preventing the occurrence of chronic inflammation.
