In 2009, the Food Additives and Nutrient Sources added to Food (ANS) group of the European Union EFSA concluded that extensive research on adults, children, and infants showed that daily intake of 6g taurine for one year would not have adverse effects on health.
In 2013, the US FDA stated that taurine is generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
The specific intake of taurine nutritional supplements should be personalized according to an individual's health status, lifestyle habits, and nutritional needs.
The "Regulations on the Use of Food Additives and Nutritional Fortifiers in Sports Nutrients" specifies that the recommended intake of taurine nutritional supplements for athletes is 1-6 grams per day. For the middle-aged and elderly population, the recommended daily intake of taurine nutritional supplements is relatively low, usually between 1-3 grams per day. For middle-aged and elderly people who exercise regularly, it is recommended to supplement 3-6 grams of taurine within 30 minutes after exercise to help relieve fatigue, promote muscle recovery, and reduce oxidative stress.
